Problem
Small companies without an accountant still have to track a ledger, invoices, expenses, salaries, payments and the PDFs behind them. Papr.work is that product: one place for financial paperwork, spanning a web app, a mobile app, an admin portal and employee self-service.
My role
Primary engineer on v1 — database design, system architecture, the Hono API, the React 19 web app, the React Native/Expo mobile app, and the admin and employee portals. Delivered roughly 90% of v1 as the sole engineer, merging 24+ pull requests in about a month, all through senior code review.
Architecture
A Hono API over PostgreSQL through Drizzle ORM, with Zod request validation and Argon2 password hashing. The React 19 web app and the React Native/Expo mobile app share TypeScript contracts and validation. A Model Context Protocol server with OAuth authorization exposes financial documents, payments, ledger queries and employee self-service to AI clients.
Engineering challenges
- Closed a security issue by moving document previews into a sandboxed iframe.
- Built a reusable terms-template system for invoices and quotations, plus custom document templates.
- Implemented a forgot-password flow alongside Argon2-based authentication.
- Kept the web and mobile clients on the same TypeScript contracts and validation, so invoices, expenses, salaries and payments render identically on both.
Outcomes
- Papr.work v1 is live at papr.work.
- One backend serves the web app, mobile app, admin portal and employee self-service portals for payslips, payments, profiles and leave requests.
- AI clients can work with Papr.work data through the MCP server, authorised with OAuth.
